Senior Men’s Co. League Div. 3: Na Gaeil senior men hosted Annuascaul in Round 2 of the McCarthy Insurance County League Div. 3 yesterday. Conditions were difficult due to the wind and rain which prevailed yet it was an entertaining encounter where the majority of scores came from play. Na Gaeil played with the aid of the elements in the first half and quickly notched the first point from Kieran O’Donovan. Annascaul replied to level matters before a point from Ruairí Ó hAiniféin and another from Kieran O’Donovan left our lads ahead 3-1 after 10 minutes. Annascaul made it 3-2 but then Na Gaeil took over and 5 points in quick succession from Jack Bourke, Ruairí Ó hAiniféin (2), Liam Cooper and Andrew Barry gave the home side a healthy 6 point lead with 10 minutes of the half remaining. An Annascaul free briefly stemmed the tide but our lads finished strongly, adding a point from Jack Barry and a tonic of a goal from Darragh Reen on the stroke of half-time. Annascaul began the second half strongly and after 10 minutes had cut the gap back to 5 points. Crucially then Jack Bourke ran through the visitors defence to fist an important score. From the next kickout Annascaul won a free in midfield. The ball dropped in around our square and was finished to the net emphatically by their corner forward. Against the elements our lads were struggling to get possession in the middle of the field and Annascaul didn’t waste any time adding another point to leave just 2 between the sides with 15 minutes still remaining. However that was as close as they got due to well-worked scores from substitute Seán O’Connor and Jack Doyle. The final point of the game came in the 29th minute from another of our subs, Dara Devine, to leave the final score Na Gaeil 1-14, Annascaul 1-9.
