RIP: Our sincere sympathy to the family of the late Mick O’Dwyer, Waterville. May he rest in peace.

Credit Union Co. League Div. 3: Yesterday our Senior Men were home to Castleisland Desmonds in Round 3, hoping to secure their first win in the competition. Unfortunately our wait continues as Desmonds proved a little too strong on the day. An entertaining first quarter began with an early point from Fergal Barry but this was immediately followed by 3 frees by our visitors. An excellent 2 pointer from Darragh Reen levelled the game. Shortly afterwards Desmonds broke through for their first goal. Our lads responded well though and outscored Desmonds by 3 points to 1 with scores from James O’Connor, Darragh Reen and Jack Sheehan, to cut the gap back to a single point by the mid-way point of the half. Then a 40m free from Desmonds should have been cleared but found its way to the Na Gaeil net for an unfortunate goal and this seemed to knock our lads’ confidence. Desmonds went on to add 4 unanswered points to leave them with a sizeable 2-8 to 0-6 halftime lead. Brothers Seán & Kieran O’Connor were introduced at the start of the 2nd half and Kieran soon put his name to a point. But Desmonds added 2 of their own before Stefan Okunbor slotted over and the gap remained 8 points. Na Gaeil had further points from Jack Sheehan, Darragh Reen and Seán O’Connor but all the while Desmonds kept the scoreboard ticking over. Another 2-point score from Darragh Reen, followed immediately by a Jack Sheehan point left just 4 points between the sides with 6 minutes remaining but Desmonds didn’t panic and added 2 points from play. A late effort from Stefan was cleared off the goal line before Darragh Reen and a Desmond’s free brought the scoring to an end. Final score: Na Gaeil 0-15, Castleisland Desmonds 2-15.

Credit Union Co. League Div. 7B: Our senior B team put in a great effort against Spa B last Saturday night before eventually losing by 4-14 to 0-17.

LGFA: Maith thú lenár bhfoireann shinsearach na mban inné. Well done to our Senior Ladies who made it 3 wins out of 3 when they defeated Rathmore yesterday in Round 3 of the Dónal Curtin Cup in Rathmore. Next Sunday our girls will be away to Cromane.

Fé 6 Cailíní agus Buachaillí: Our under 6s enjoyed their return to the main pitch in Killeen yesterday morning. Hope to see you all again next Sunday at training in Na Gaeil from 11am to 12pm.

Fé 8 Buachaillí: Killeen was a hive of activity yesterday. It’s great to finally get back out on the pitch. We had 30 kids at U8’s training. The group enjoyed hop and solo relays, a game of cops and robbers. Skills training included hand and kick passing, high catch, crouch lift, and finished with a game using development skills. The extra space provided plenty of room to display the group’s skills. We are back on the pitch next Sunday. See you all in Killeen at 11am. New members are always welcome.

Fé 10 Buachaillí: Training again next Sunday in Na Gaeil from 11am to 12pm.

Fé 12 Buachaillí: Our lads were away to Kilcummin last night and will host Firies next Sunday evening. New members are always welcome.

Fé 14 Buachaillí: Last Tuesday our u14’s B’s took on Listowel B’s in the first game of the evening in a sun-drenched Killeen, provided a feast of football from both teams. Na Gaeil who had a hammer blow early door when conceding 2 soft goals got to grips with the game and got some great team scores. The game ebbed and flowed with the lads having the chance to draw level but missed the free and from the resultant kickout Listowel attacked and got the killer goal. Our lads worked extremely hard all during the game.

Our A’s took on Listowel in the second game and like the B game it didn’t disappoint. Na Gaeil were slow to start and it was actually Listowel who scored first but Na Gaeil finally got up to the pace and got some great scores to lead at the short whistle by 8. This went out to 9 but Listowel stuck to the task and started to whittle away at the lead and with the clock winding down Listowel had it down to a point. Silence reigned over Killeen as Listowel had a free to equalise but luckily it dropped short and Na Gaeil cleared their lines. Round 2 will take both our teams back west to take on An Ghealtacht next Tuesday.
