AFL: Congratulations to our senior player Maria Quirke who helped her team, the Irish Banshees, to victory over USA in the Transatlantic Cup Grand Final (Australian Rules) in Toronto yesterday. They won by 48 points to 30 after extra time with Maria scoring the final goal of the game.

Boston GAA: Great news from Boston where Darragh Reen’s Kerry Boston team clinched the Intermediate football title yesterday defeating Cork Boston by a single point.

Campa Samhraidh Peile: What a thrilling finale to Na Gaeil’s Campa Samhraidh Peile last Friday! The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as our All-Ireland Ladies Football champions arrived, proudly showcasing the Brendan Martin Cup. The young campers were over the moon to meet their heroes — Na Gaeil legends Mary Ní Chonaill, Éilis Ní Chonchúir, Deirdre Kearney, and Austin Stack’s Aoife Dillane — alongside their managment duo Daragh and Deaglán. After a week of exciting coaching sessions in Na Gaeil na gréine, that honed our camper’s skills, thrilling games that kept everyone on their toes, and the fun of practising the cúpla focal, 130 beaming campers and their coaches celebrated a memorable summer camp of football and camaraderie. Míle buíochas to camp Co-ordinator Séamas Ó Luanaigh and his team for a job very well done. Go leor leor Spórt agus Spraoi @ Na Gaeil CLG. 2024.

Senior Men: Round 3 of the Club Championship was played in Killeen last Saturday. Final score Na Gaeil 0–8, Dr. Crokes 1–9. Na Gaeil won the throw in, and Morgan gave a great pass to Tomás who opened the scoring with a great point. Crokes won the kick out and after some close passing Tony Brosnan pointed before two minutes had passed. Our backs were again under pressure but some great work by Enda and Jack kept our lines intact until Mikey Casey pointed after four minutes. Things settled down for a while with most of the action being in the middle third, with Na Gaeil holding their own. Then in the twelfth, fourteenth and sixteenth minutes Diarmuid scored three magnificent points from play to leave us two ahead. Evan Looney pulled one back for Crokes, but Tomás put us two ahead after a great pass from Peter Doyle on nineteen minutes. Crokes came back per Tony Brosnan and Gavin White to level matters. Jack Doyle put us a point up on the twenty ninth minute, but Tony Brosnan equalised with a free on thirty. This was a good first half of ding-dong football where Na Gaeil more than held their own with our back being very impressive. Halftime: Na Gaeil 0–6 Dr. Crokes 0–6.

Kieran Donovan opened the scoring for us in the second half to put us one ahead. That however was as good as it got. We just could not get shots off against a very disciplined Dr. Crokes defence and just one wide after seven minutes and a closing point after twenty five, shows the pressure our forwards were under. Our backs were under huge pressure also but, as in the first half, we kept Dr. Crokes scoring chances to a minimum. It took them five minutes to equalise through Dathaí Casey. The game continued in a ding-dong fashion until disaster struck when a loose ball was goaled by Cian McMahon after thirteen minutes. Try as we might we just could not get shots away. Crokes added two more, a free Tony Brosnan and Cian Mc Mahon from play. There are plenty positives to take from the game as we held our own both in attack and defence over the hour apart from the goal. Final score Na Gaeil 0–8 Dr. Crokes 1-9.
